ECT Rules

Format Overview

ECT (Eighty Card Tribal) bridges sixty-card and one-hundred-card formats. It combines a Leader and creature-type identity with four-copy construction.

Leader

• The Leader must be a creature with at least one physical Rare or Mythic printing.
• The Leader does not need to be legendary.
• The Leader occupies the Leader zone and counts as one sideboard card.
• The Leader is not a Commander and does not enable rules text that refers to your Commander.

Deck Construction

• Mainboard: at least 80 cards.
• Sideboard: exactly one Leader and up to nineteen other cards.
• Non-Leaders require at least one physical Common or Uncommon printing.
• Basic lands are unlimited.
• Other cards are limited to four copies across Leader, Mainboard, and Sideboard unless card text overrides that limit.

Color Identity

• Commander color-identity rules determine card color identity.
• A deck may use cards within the Leader color identity plus at most one additional color.
• The deck may omit Leader colors.
• Colorless cards are allowed in every deck.
• A colorless Leader may use colorless cards and at most one selected color.

Creature and Kindred Identity

• Every Creature and Kindred card must share at least one creature subtype with the Leader.
• Only the front face is used for this subtype comparison.
• A card with Changeling is exempt.
• A Changeling Leader contributes only its printed front-face subtypes for deck construction.

Globally Excluded Cards

• Every card listed as Banned.
• Ante cards.
• Conspiracy cards.
• Playtest cards.
• Any card ever printed in an Un-set.
• Universes Beyond cards remain legal unless another ECT rule excludes them.

Starting Life

• One-on-one: 20.
• Two-Headed Giant: 30.
• Multiplayer: 40.
